  15. This file is a description of the files contained in the directory
  16. /misc/fun/urban.legends that relate to urban legends, the newsgroup 
  17. alt.folklore.urban, and similar material.  What is an urban legend?  
  18. Stealing Terry Chan's definition from the alt.folklore.urban FAQ list:
  19.  
  20. "An urban legend:
  21.     * appears mysteriously and spreads spontaneously in varying forms
  22.     * contains elements of humor or horror (the horror often "punishes"
  23.       someone who flouts society's conventions).
  24.     * makes good storytelling.
  25.     * does NOT have to be false, although most are.  ULs often have a basis
  26.       in fact, but it's their life after-the-fact (particularly in reference
  27.       to the second and third points) that gives them particular interest."
